Christmas Team Building Ideas: Get Your Hands in the Clay This Festive Season

Location: Islington, London

Capacity: 4-16

The best Christmas team building gives everyone something to talk about and something to take home, and a ceramics workshop does both. Swap the usual pub quiz or crowded restaurant for an afternoon of clay, colour and conversation.

No experience is needed. Our teachers guide your group from first touch to finished piece, so beginners and the quietly competitive alike have a great time. Everyone leaves with a handmade piece that is fired in our kiln and sent on to them, a far better souvenir than a paper hat.

New for Christmas: two festive workshops

This season we are launching two brand-new workshops, designed especially for Christmas parties and team socials.

Ceramic Polaroid Frame Making. Handbuild and decorate your own ceramic frame, sized to hold a Polaroid photo. Snap a team picture on the day, and once your frame comes back from the kiln you have a keepsake of the party that will sit on desks long after the tinsel comes down. It also makes a thoughtful gift for someone at home.

Christmas Bauble Making. Shape and decorate your own ceramic baubles to hang on the tree. Go traditional with snowflakes and stars, or let the team's inside jokes make an appearance. They are a lovely way to bring a piece of the office party home, year after year.

These new workshops are not listed on our website yet, so to book either one, email us at cindy@meiroceramics.com.

More ways to celebrate with clay

BYOB Pottery Painting. Bring a bottle, bring your colleagues and get creative. Everyone designs their own tableware using more than 30 colours of underglaze. It is relaxed and chatty, which makes it a natural fit for an after-work Christmas party.

Matcha Tasting and Matcha Bowl Making. A calmer way to close out a busy year. Your team starts with a matcha experience, then handbuilds their own stoneware matcha bowl. Perfect for teams who would rather slow down than shout over music.

Pottery Throwing Taster. The classic experience at the pottery wheel. It is fun, a little messy and a real skill to learn together, which makes it ideal for a small team or a thank-you treat for a few colleagues.

Our painting and handbuilding workshops, including both new Christmas workshops, welcome groups of 4 to 16 people. Wheel throwing sessions are kept small, for 3 to 5 people, so everyone gets hands-on time with the teacher.

Plan ahead: pieces take about 3 weeks

Every ceramics workshop piece takes around 3 weeks to be fired and shipped. Clay needs time to dry, go through the kiln and be packed safely before it reaches you.

If you want baubles on the tree or frames on desks before the Christmas break, we recommend booking your workshop for November or the very start of December. Christmas dates fill up quickly, so the earlier you get in touch, the more choice of dates your team will have.
