Pottery Course - Complete Introduction for Beginners
Each week, you’ll build new skills—from pinching and coiling to slab building—and discover how to shape clay into beautiful and functional forms. We’ll also cover how to prepare clay, use basic tools, and finish your pieces with decoration and glaze.All tools and materials are provided. Come get your hands muddy and leave with something you can be proud of (and maybe drink tea/coffee from)!
Course Outline:Week 1:
Introduction to the ceramics process: forming, glazing, and firing
Health & safety in the studio
Clay preparation: wedging and kneading
First touch: make your first small cup using pinching techniques
Weeks 2-3:
Learn different ways to shape clay with your hands—like pinching to make cups and bowls, or coiling and slab building to create your own vases and mini sculptures.
Get familiar with basic pottery tools and how to use them
Begin designing and making your own ceramic objects (cups, small bowls, plates, vases or small sculptures)
Week 4:
Introduction to decorating techniques: underglaze painting and slip decoration
Learn basic glazing techniques
Finish and glaze your work ready for firing
All pieces will be ready 2-3 weeks after the last sessions.
